ViewLux Sliding & Patio Doors: The Palm Beach Owner’s Guide

If you own a ViewLux sliding door in Palm Beach and a roller, handle, or lock has failed, we stock the parts and can usually install them the same week. Installed replacement parts for ViewLux doors in this market typically run $140 to $680 depending on what failed. Most people discover the problem when the door suddenly needs two hands to open, or when the latch no longer catches and salt-heavy air has been sneaking in overnight.

You’re here because something specific stopped working. A door that dragged for months and now won’t move. A handle that spins without engaging. A screen that derailed for the fourth time. This page walks through what fails on ViewLux doors in a coastal climate, what it costs to fix in Palm Beach, and when you should put down the screwdriver and call us.

Which ViewLux Models This Applies To

ViewLux builds several sliding and patio door lines, and the part you need depends on which series is stamped on the door’s corner label. The Series 600 and Series 800 lines are the most common in Palm Beach County, and they do not share rollers. The 600-series roller sits in a narrower bottom rail cradle than the 800-series, and we’ve seen homeowners buy the wrong one after reading a generic parts chart online. That’s the single biggest compatibility gotcha with ViewLux: the two series look nearly identical from ten feet away, but the cartridges are not interchangeable.

Here’s how to identify yours without pulling the door out of the frame. Look at the upper corner of the glass panel where the manufacturer etches the safety glass marking. The series number is printed there on original ViewLux glass. If the etching has worn off (common after years of salt and sun exposure), remove the interior handle plate and check the lock mechanism casing. The 800 series uses a taller mortise body than the 600. That’s the fallback identifier we use in the field.

On the OEM versus aftermarket question for ViewLux parts specifically: ViewLux does not sell direct to homeowners. You’re buying through a dealer or a service provider like us. Aftermarket rollers made for ViewLux doors exist, and some are perfectly good, but we’ve pulled apart doors in Palm Beach where an aftermarket roller wore out in 16 months because the bearings weren’t sealed for a salt environment. We prefer OEM ViewLux parts when they’re available, and we’ll tell you honestly when a quality aftermarket equivalent will do the job for less. The decision should be based on where your door sits: a western-facing door on a canal gets hit harder than a north-facing interior door.

We’re an independent local service company, not affiliated with the ViewLux corporation. We install their doors and maintain their parts because we’ve watched how they hold up here. Among the brands we regularly service in South Florida, ViewLux sits alongside PGT, CGI, and CWS for coastal durability, and we stock rollers, handles, locks, and weatherstripping for all of them.

Signs Your ViewLux Sliding & Patio Doors Is Failing

  • The door lifts or drops when you slide it. That’s a roller bearing wearing out. The door gets progressively harder to move, then one day it jumps the track entirely and you’re lifting a 150-pound glass panel off the floor. We replace the roller cartridge before that happens.
  • The handle turns without engaging the lock. The internal gear mechanism in the handle mortise has stripped. Palm Beach humidity accelerates corrosion inside the lock body until the brass gears lose their teeth. We see this on doors installed 10-plus years ago.
  • The door slides fine but air and rain come through when it’s closed. The weatherstripping on the interlock where the two panels meet has compressed or torn. In a tropical downpour, this shows up as a wet patch on the floor within minutes. The fix is a new interlock seal, not a whole door.
  • The screen panel no longer lines up. The adjustable screen rollers at the bottom have seized from corrosion, and the screen’s bottom rail sits crooked in the track. Palm Beach’s salt air is brutal on screen hardware. We keep replacement screen rollers on the truck for ViewLux tracks.
  • You hear a scraping or grinding sound every time the door moves. Grit has embedded in the roller bearings and is now chewing through the track. The longer this runs, the higher the chance the track needs replacement along with the rollers. That turns a $200 fix into a $600 one.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what we charge to fix ViewLux sliders in the Palm Beach area, parts and labor together, with no trip charge inside Palm Beach County:

  • Roller replacement (both panels): $190 - $340
  • Single roller cartridge (one panel): $140 - $190
  • Handle and lock assembly (mortise style): $220 - $410 depending on series
  • Interlock weatherstripping replacement: $80 - $160
  • Screen roller replacement (both sides): $60 - $110
  • Full track replacement (rare but sometimes necessary): $480 - $680

What drives the range is mostly the series. 800-series parts run higher than 600-series, and if the door is a custom panel width, the door has to come out of the frame to swap rollers safely, which adds labor time. You’ll get a written line-item quote before we touch anything, so there’s no mystery on the invoice. The work carries our Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right. That’s Ed Winslow’s promise, and it doesn’t have an expiration date.

Winslow Windows & Doors has been installing and servicing ViewLux patio doors in Palm Beach since 2011. We’ve seen which parts fail in this climate and keep the common ones stocked on our service vehicles so you’re not waiting a week for a roller to ship from a warehouse up north.

DIY or Call Us?

Sliding door rollers and handles are not in the same danger category as garage-door torsion springs. You won’t lose a finger. But you can absolutely damage a glass panel or pull the door off its track if you try to unload a 600-series door by yourself. Those panels weigh over 100 pounds. If the glass is tempered and it hits the concrete just right, you’re replacing the whole panel, not just the part.

What you can safely do: clean the bottom track with a vacuum and a stiff brush (debris buildup is a real culprit in slow-moving doors), and check whether the door is level using a simple bubble level across the bottom rail. If the door sits level but still drags, the rollers are shot. If the handle spins, the lock body is done. Those are tool-intensive jobs that involve removing the door from the frame.

If you’re the type who wants to attempt the roller swap yourself, we respect that, but know that ViewLux doors don’t have an external adjustment port like cheaper vinyl sliders. You have to lift the panel out. We’ve been called to finish more than a few DIY roller jobs where the door ended up on the patio floor with a spider-webbed corner. Call us at (561) 782-7525 and we’ll do it right the first time.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"Three big companies quoted us and every one sent a salesman with a leased truck. Ed turned up in a truck with his own name on the door, quoted less, and his crew were the same faces on day one and day nine."

YYolanda Betancourt
★★★★★

"A tile roof repair and new windows from the same company meant one crew, one permit runner, and nobody blaming the other trade. Ed checked the roof work himself before the tarp came off."

HHenrietta Pemberton
★★★★★

"Ed measured every opening himself and walked me through the product approval paperwork before I signed anything. When the inspector came he found the notice of acceptance taped inside a window like it should be and passed us first visit."

RRosalind Beaumont
★★★★★

"Someone tried the back slider while we were away. The glass crazed and held, the alarm never had to earn its keep, and the police report reads better than it might have. Ed came out the next morning to check the frame himself."

CCornelius Adeyemi
★★★★

"Excellent work and a fair price for what it is, though impact glass is never cheap and one bedroom window arrived with a scratched pane. Ed flagged it before I saw it and the replacement went in without me chasing anyone."

BBartholomew Crenshaw
★★★★★

"He replaced the front door and the garage door in the same week, both rated for impact, and lined the frames up so straight my level had nothing to say. My wife stopped hearing the highway from the front room."

MMaximilian Vasquez
★★★★

"The installation was clean and the windows are beautiful. The factory took about six weeks to deliver the units, which Ed told me upfront, but living behind plywood-framed openings in the meantime still tested my patience."
