CWS Window Replacement: The Palm Beach Owner’s Guide

If your CWS window has a failed seal, fogged glass, a worn balance, or a cracked sash, we can replace it, typically for $450 to $1,200 per window installed in Palm Beach, depending on the model, glass package, and whether it’s impact-rated. Most CWS window replacements are done the same day once we’ve matched the part to your exact series. You’ll usually discover the problem the same way every Palm Beach homeowner does: a window that suddenly won’t stay up, moisture that won’t wipe away between the panes, or a crank that spins without moving the sash.

We’re Winslow Windows & Doors, an independent service provider, not a CWS factory outlet. We’re authorized to install CWS products, and we stock the replacement parts that keep CWS windows working through salt air, summer humidity, and the occasional hurricane warning. Ed Winslow’s name is on the truck. That’s the only guarantee you actually need.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS builds several series of impact and non-impact windows, and the replacement part has to match the series, not just the rough opening. The most common lines we service in Palm Beach are the CWS 6800 series, the 7800 series, and the 6800/7800 casement and single-hung configurations. Each series uses slightly different balance shoe dimensions, sash profiles, and glazing beads. Grab the silver sticker on the inside edge of the frame: it carries the CWS series number and usually the glass package code. Compare that to the sticker on the sash itself, and you’ll have what we need to cross-reference the part.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha we see all the time: a CWS window made before roughly 2014 may use a different balance shoe and pivot bar than a newer unit of the same series. The sash profile looks identical, but the hardware isn’t interchangeable. When you call, we’ll have you send a photo of the sticker and the failed part before we dispatch, so we don’t show up with the wrong balance shoe and waste your afternoon. For glass replacements, we match the original glass package, laminated or tempered, so the replacement IG unit sits correctly in the same glazing pocket.

OEM parts from CWS are ideal when they’re available and the lead time is short. But for many older series, a quality aftermarket equivalent from a supplier like Strybuc or All About Doors gets the job done faster and at a better price, with no functional difference. We’ll give you the honest choice and our recommendation.

Signs Your CWS Window Replacement Is Failing

  • Fog or haze between the panes. This means the IG unit’s seal has failed and moisture is now trapped between the glass. In Palm Beach, salt-saturated air accelerates seal failure on windows east of the Intracoastal, and once the seal goes, the glass’s insulation value and clarity go with it.
  • The sash drops when you let go, or won’t stay open. On single-hungs and double-hungs, this is a worn balance shoe or a broken spiral balance. CWS balances are rated for a specific sash weight, and a mismatch makes the window slam shut hard enough to crack the vinyl.
  • A crank that turns but doesn’t move the sash. On CWS casement and awning windows, this is usually a stripped operator gear or a broken torque bar. The operator is the weak link in the chain, and in coastal air it corrodes faster than inland.
  • Visible black streaks or mold around the frame or track. A failed weather seal lets humid Palm Beach air condense inside the track, and the constant moisture grows mildew. It’s more than cosmetic: water sitting in the track eventually works into the wall cavity.
  • Cracks in the glass or a shattered laminate layer. Impact glass from CWS is designed to take a hit and hold together, but a branch, a golf ball, or storm debris can crack the outer lite. Once the outer lite cracks, the structural integrity of the impact package is compromised, even if the inner laminate holds.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Palm Beach, CWS window replacement pricing breaks down into a few realistic buckets. A basic balance shoe and pivot bar swap runs $450 to $600 per window, including parts and labor. A failed IG unit, glass-only replacement, runs $650 to $1,000 depending on glass size, low-E coating, and whether it’s tempered or impact laminated. A full sash replacement for a casement or single-hung runs $800 to $1,200 per unit. The spread between those numbers comes down to glass specs and series: a CWS 7800 impact sash costs more than a 6800 non-impact of the same size, and a low-E, tempered, impact-laminated package costs more than a clear annealed pane.

Every quote from Winslow is a written line-item price: the part, the labor, and the trip, with no change orders added later. We tell you upfront what the part costs and what it takes to install it. We don’t pad the part, and we don’t bury a “disposal fee” or “shop charge” in the fine print. If you’re inside our home county, there’s no trip charge at all. And we stand behind the work with the Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, Ed Winslow makes it right, period.

DIY or Call Us?

Some things on a CWS window you can safely check yourself. Clean the track, clear the weep holes, and take a photo of the silver sticker so you know your series. That’s the extent of what we’d hand a homeowner. Swapping a balance shoe on a CWS single-hung means removing the sash, releasing the spiral balance under tension, and seating the new shoe and pivot bar correctly; get it wrong and the sash can snap down hard enough to shatter the glass or pinch a hand. Same story with casement operators: the torque bar sits under tension, and if the bar releases while you’re working the crank, it can spin fast enough to break a finger. Glass replacement on an impact unit is even more involved: a laminated IG unit can weigh 40 pounds or more, and the glazing bead has to seat perfectly or the window won’t seal.

If you’re inside the Palm Beach area, we’d rather you call us at (561) 782-7525 before you start pulling sashes. We answer the phone at all hours, a live person, not a call center. And if you’ve already got a written estimate from someone else, bring it in; we’ll give you a free second opinion on it.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"Three big companies quoted us and every one sent a salesman with a leased truck. Ed turned up in a truck with his own name on the door, quoted less, and his crew were the same faces on day one and day nine."

YYolanda Betancourt
★★★★★

"A tile roof repair and new windows from the same company meant one crew, one permit runner, and nobody blaming the other trade. Ed checked the roof work himself before the tarp came off."

HHenrietta Pemberton
★★★★★

"Ed measured every opening himself and walked me through the product approval paperwork before I signed anything. When the inspector came he found the notice of acceptance taped inside a window like it should be and passed us first visit."

RRosalind Beaumont
★★★★★

"Someone tried the back slider while we were away. The glass crazed and held, the alarm never had to earn its keep, and the police report reads better than it might have. Ed came out the next morning to check the frame himself."

CCornelius Adeyemi
★★★★

"Excellent work and a fair price for what it is, though impact glass is never cheap and one bedroom window arrived with a scratched pane. Ed flagged it before I saw it and the replacement went in without me chasing anyone."

BBartholomew Crenshaw
★★★★★

"He replaced the front door and the garage door in the same week, both rated for impact, and lined the frames up so straight my level had nothing to say. My wife stopped hearing the highway from the front room."

MMaximilian Vasquez
★★★★

"The installation was clean and the windows are beautiful. The factory took about six weeks to deliver the units, which Ed told me upfront, but living behind plywood-framed openings in the meantime still tested my patience."
