CWS Window Installation: The Palm Beach Owner’s Guide

We install CWS window components across Palm Beach, and most CWS parts we swap run between $95 and $420 installed, depending on the component and your window series. If you’re noticing a sticky sash, a loose crank, fogged glass or a lock that no longer catches, you’re likely looking at a failed CWS window part, not a full window replacement. Call us at (561) 782-7525 and we’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a part we can match same day.

Here’s the honest picture: most CWS parts give up in Florida’s salt and humidity long before the window frame itself does. The roller assemblies, balances, weatherstripping and lock mechanisms are the first things to go, and they fail in ways that are easy to misdiagnose. What looks like a warped frame is usually a dead balance or a corroded pivot bar. That’s the part we replace, and the window gets another decade out of it. Winslow Windows & Doors is an independent service provider, not affiliated with CWS, and we stock the CWS-compatible components that actually fit the units installed in Palm Beach homes.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS has supplied a few distinct window families over the years, and each one takes different hardware. The older 6800 and 7100 series single-hung and horizontal roller windows, which you’ll find a lot of in 1980s and 1990s homes from El Cid down to the South End, use a specific style of spring balance and a plastic pivot shoe that cracks with age. The newer 9500 and 9700 series, common in condos along the Intracoastal, take a different balance tube diameter and a beefier roller with a stainless housing. You can’t swap parts between these lines, and the part numbers stamped on the balance or roller are how we confirm what you have before we quote anything.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha we run into every week in Palm Beach: a CWS window’s glass size is not the same as its balance spec or roller spec. Two windows that look identical from across the room can take different weight-rated balances because the sash changed thickness between production years. The only way to know is to read the stamp on the part itself or pull the sash and measure the balance tube diameter. If you’d rather not do that, call us and a technician will do it on site. For CWS specifically, we default to OEM-spec parts when they’re still available from our distributor network. When CWS has discontinued a part, which happens more often than we’d like, we use proven aftermarket equivalents that match the original specs, and we tell you which is which before you pay a dime.

Signs Your CWS Window Installation Is Failing

  • The sash drops when you raise it, or won’t stay up at all. That’s a failed balance. Spring balances on single-hung CWS units in Palm Beach coastal air snap or lose tension after ten to fifteen years, and it’s never an alignment problem, it’s the part.
  • The window doesn’t slide smoothly, or it grinds and grabs halfway across the track. Roller assemblies collect sand and salt grit along the coast, and once the nylon wheel seizes, the steel housing starts chewing the track. Replace the roller before the track needs machining.
  • You close the lock and it barely catches, or the keeper plate spins loose. This one we see on older CWS 6800 series units where the original die-cast keeper corrodes at the screw points. The sash is fine; the lock hardware is not.
  • Condensation trapped between the glass panes. In Palm Beach humidity, a failed CWS insulated glass seal shows up fast. Once the seal is breached, the argon or krypton fill escapes and the glass unit needs replacement, not repair.
  • The crank operator turns but the vent sash doesn’t move, or it chatters when it does. CWS casement and awning operators strip their gears internally, and the only fix is a new operator matched to the window’s hinge geometry.

Every one of these symptoms has a distinct part number and a specific fix. You don’t have to know what the part is before you call. You just have to know what the window is doing.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For CWS window hardware installation in Palm Beach, here’s what we charge, installed, and what’s in the price.

  • Single-hung spring balance pair: $95 to $165 installed
  • Roller assembly pair (sliding or single-hung): $110 to $190 installed
  • Lock and keeper assembly: $65 to $125 installed
  • Casement or awning crank operator: $140 to $260 installed
  • Insulated glass unit replacement (per sash, varies by glass and gas fill): $240 to $420 installed

The range comes down to which CWS series you have, how many parts need matching, and what the distributor charges us for the component on any given week. Every quote is parts plus labor, line-itemed, and the price we quote is the price you pay. No change orders. Our installation work is covered by the Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we come back and make it right. That’s the whole transaction.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely do the diagnostic work yourself: read the sticker on the sash, see what the window is doing, and write down the part numbers if you can find them. That saves us both time. Where DIY goes wrong is in the swap itself. Window balances are under spring tension, and the release mechanism varies by brand series. If you don’t know how to relieve that tension before the sash comes out, the balance can snap back hard enough to take off a fingertip, and we’d rather you keep your hands. Glass unit replacement is its own thing entirely: CWS sashes take specific glazing bead profiles and shim tolerances, and a Palm Beach window that’s even slightly out of square after a DIY glass swap is going to leak in the next storm.

If the problem is a roller, a balance, a lock or an operator, call (561) 782-7525. We’ll match the part, quote you a fixed price over the phone, and typically have it installed the same day. Ed Winslow grew up in El Cid and he’s seen what salt air does to hardware, so we carry the parts that fail here, not the stuff that fails in Poughkeepsie.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"Three big companies quoted us and every one sent a salesman with a leased truck. Ed turned up in a truck with his own name on the door, quoted less, and his crew were the same faces on day one and day nine."

YYolanda Betancourt
★★★★★

"A tile roof repair and new windows from the same company meant one crew, one permit runner, and nobody blaming the other trade. Ed checked the roof work himself before the tarp came off."

HHenrietta Pemberton
★★★★★

"Ed measured every opening himself and walked me through the product approval paperwork before I signed anything. When the inspector came he found the notice of acceptance taped inside a window like it should be and passed us first visit."

RRosalind Beaumont
★★★★★

"Someone tried the back slider while we were away. The glass crazed and held, the alarm never had to earn its keep, and the police report reads better than it might have. Ed came out the next morning to check the frame himself."

CCornelius Adeyemi
★★★★

"Excellent work and a fair price for what it is, though impact glass is never cheap and one bedroom window arrived with a scratched pane. Ed flagged it before I saw it and the replacement went in without me chasing anyone."

BBartholomew Crenshaw
★★★★★

"He replaced the front door and the garage door in the same week, both rated for impact, and lined the frames up so straight my level had nothing to say. My wife stopped hearing the highway from the front room."

MMaximilian Vasquez
★★★★

"The installation was clean and the windows are beautiful. The factory took about six weeks to deliver the units, which Ed told me upfront, but living behind plywood-framed openings in the meantime still tested my patience."
